Congratulations to native New Yorker Martin Scorsese on his Oscar win last night for Best Director for his work on The Departed.

He shot most of The Departed, a story that takes place in Boston, in New York so he could take advantage of the Empire State Film Production Credit program, New York State’s incentive for film and television.

In addition to Best Director, The Departed also won 3 other Academy Awards for Best Motion Picture, Best Film Editing and Best Adapted Screenplay.
