QUALIFIED STAGES

To participate in the Empire State Film Production Credit program you need to be in a qualified studio or soundstage space for at least one day.

Qualified facilities, like the Main Street Armory in Rochester can be found all around the state.

In the NY metro area alone, there are over 100 sound stages. We've got a range of options for studio filming:

SOUND STAGES

  • Steiner Studios in the Brooklyn Navy Yards has over 100,000 sq feet of new, state-of-the-art space in 5 stages ranging up to 27,000 sq ft. Silver Cup Studios, Kaufman Astoria Studios, and Broadway Stages, and others offer additional facilities for larger productions, while numerous smaller stages, ideal for commercials and video shoots, are available throughout the city and across the state.

  • Minutes from Manhattan, two large facilities---Hudson River Stages (temporarily off line) and Yonkers Stages —have hosted major Hollywood productions, earning Yonkers the nickname “Burbank on the Hudson.”

  • And on Long Island, East Hampton Studios holds one of the largest unpartitioned stages east of LA--28000 sq feet with 45 feet of headroom.

ARMORIES

  • New York State has armories around the state that can be adapted for use as sound stages. In New York City, 2 Brooklyn armories with clear-span floors of 60,000 sq ft have been used for numerous major features, including Martin Scorcese's The Departed, Robert De Niro's The Good Shepherd, and Sydney Pollock's The Interpreter.
